Ride of the Week: 2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune

Volkswagen first paid tribute to the throwback Baja Bug during the 2014 Detroit Auto Show with a rugged concept version of the off-road classic. Fast forward 2 years, and an updated design is set to hit the market. The 2016 VW Beetle Dune is without a doubt the most robust of its kind, with new bumpers, side moldings, a raised ground clearance and a track that is 0.6 inches wider, giving it a more rugged stance. Dune graphics along the sides add a touch of nostalgia, while a redesigned rear is upgraded with a spoiler and new exhausts. Under the hood the car boasts a 1.8 TSI four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower, meaning its probably better fit for the road than for off-road excursions. The 2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune is scheduled to go on sale early next year and will be available in Sandstorm Yellow, Pure White and Deep Black Pear exterior colors.
